G321: FOUNDATION PORTFOLIO: Things to do

  • There will be 2 production tasks that students will have to complete during the 1st year.
  • The 2 production tasks make up 50% of your over all course grade: They are

COURSEWORK #1: Preliminary task &

COURSEWORK #2: Main task

The 2 production tasks are as follows:

COURSEWORK #1: Preliminary tasks

  • You must work in groups of no more than 3 people
  • You must film a short sequence (in camera) of a person entering a room, having a conversation with another person and exchanging an item.
  • You must be aware of match on action / the 180 degree rule / Continuity editing / Shot reverse shot
  • You will set up a camera & tripod, put on a battery, put in a dv tape correctly, film a sequence with a variety of shot distances and movements and then hand your work in for assessment

COURSEWORK #2: Main task

In the same groups students have to make the opening sequence of either:

A Thriller film

A Romantic Comedy

A Horror film

Including TITLES aimed at either a 15 or 18 audience

APPROX 2 MINUTES IN DURATION ONLY

(Minimum 1min30sec / maximum 3min30secs) Anything over or under will be severely penalised by the exam board OCR

  • In order to evaluate your performance for both coursework students (in their groups) will have to create a BLOG on http://www.blogspot.com/
  • Once you have an address you must inform the teacher immediately
  • Students in their group must make a password and NOT share it with others
  • Students must give details of their address to the teacher for assessment and for checks on suitability
  • Your blog should contain the following key production elements of :

1: PLANNING

2: CONSTRUCTION

3: EVALUATION

  • Your 1) PLANNING element should contain the following (i) evidence of actual artefacts: (jpegs of word documents/video clips) and (ii) assessment (how you actually did the task and what you learned from it) how you did the following tasks:

  • T1: ACTION PLAN
  • T2: RESEARCH INTO EXISTING PRODUCTS
  • T3: AUDIENCE RESEARCH
  • T4: TARGET AUDIENCE
  • T5: THE PITCH
  • T6: SCRIPT
  • T7: STORYBOARD
  • T8: ROLE ALLOCATION
  • T9: CASTING
  • T10: FILMING
  • T11: EDITING

2) CONSTRUCTION: Your actual FINALISED production on the blogspot ready for assessment

3) EVALUATION: A PODCAST each on how you worked as a group and accomplished the task of making your own film production answering specific questions
